The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended ex-Trinamool Congress legislator Saokat Molla for his involvement in the bomb explosion at Bhangar in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. Saokat was captured while trying to escape to Bangladesh through the coastal borders, with locals pursuing him in the Chunakhali area.

Saokat’s associates were presented in a Kolkata court, while security forces sealed off routes to the coastal border. NIA operatives, monitoring the situation closely, intercepted Saokat en route to surrender at their New Town office, apprehending him midway in Baruipur.

In a separate operation, NIA arrested Sainur Molla, the driver of the Scorpio car used in transporting the bomb makers involved in the blast, bringing the total arrests in the case to three. The explosion occurred during the assembly elections while the accused were producing crude bombs.

The searches conducted post-arrest led to the recovery of incriminating materials, electronic devices, and documents, now undergoing forensic analysis. Investigations unveiled that Sainur Molla transported the deceased and injured individuals post-explosion in the Scorpio vehicle.
