Another former Trinamool Congress MLA from West Bengal’s East Burdwan district has been arrested on corruption charges, following the arrest of a former MLA from the same region. Debprasad Bagh, the ex-MLA from Kalna, was taken into custody after a police raid at his residence in Nadanghat on Monday night. He is accused of hoarding government relief materials at his home instead of distributing them as intended.
The police alleged that Debprasad had stored various items, including relief materials and sports equipment, meant for the youth, at his house. Authorities are investigating the purpose behind hoarding these materials and any potential links to other activities. Locals had long harbored dissatisfaction towards Debprasad, but remained silent due to the political climate. However, with the change in government, accusations of corruption against him have surfaced.
Upon news of his arrest, a large crowd gathered outside Debprasad’s house while he and his family remained indoors for an extended period. This incident follows the recent arrest of Kalna-II block Trinamool President Pranab Roy for irregularities in relief material distribution. Investigations suggest that more cases of mismanagement in government projects may emerge in the region. Despite these developments, the district Trinamool leadership has refrained from commenting on the ongoing police actions.
