Former Trinamool Congress MP Aparupa Poddar, accused of obstructing policemen during her husband’s arrest by NIA officials, did not show up at the Serampore police station as requested. The police had filed a case against her for allegedly interfering when her husband, Trinamool councillor Shakir Ali, was being taken by the NIA. Despite being asked to appear by noon, she failed to do so.
While Poddar was absent at the police station, she was spotted at the City Sessions Court in Kolkata during her husband’s appearance before the NIA special court. The Chandannagar Police Commissionerate warned of legal action if she continued to evade appearing before them. Poddar’s reasons for missing the police station visit or her court appearance remain undisclosed.
Trinamool Congress councillor Shakir Ali, Poddar’s husband, was arrested by the NIA in connection with the 2023 Ram Navami violence case. Following his arrest, a case was registered against Poddar for allegedly misbehaving with government officials and disrupting their duties. During the NIA raid, Poddar reportedly had a confrontation with a female police officer, leading to accusations of misconduct.
