Former Trinamool Congress MP Aparupa Poddar surrendered in court and obtained interim bail in a recent case. Aparupa, a two-time MP from Arambagh, will need to appear in the MP-MLA court subsequently. The Chandannagar Police Commissionerate mentioned that another notice might be issued to Aparupa.
The police had initiated a case against Aparupa Poddar for allegedly obstructing police work during the arrest of her husband and Trinamool councillor Shakir Ali by National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials in a Ram Navami violence case. Aparupa had to visit the Serampore police station for this matter. Meanwhile, the NIA court granted conditional bail to Shakir Ali.
Today, Aparupa, accompanied by her husband, appeared at the Serampore sub-division court where she was granted interim bail. However, she has been directed to appear in a special court at Mayukh Bhavan on September 30. According to the police, Aparupa failed to report to the police station as required, leading to a non-bailable clause being imposed against her. Consequently, she had to seek bail in court.
Aparupa’s lawyer, Joydeep Mukherjee, stated that they will be present in the MP-MLA court at Mayukh Bhavan in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on September 30. Addressing the police case, he emphasized that they will handle their responsibilities while the police will do their part. He highlighted that there was no incident of ‘attempt to murder’ or ‘assault’ despite the suo motu case filed by the police, and they intend to address it legally.
Chandannagar Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Yadav mentioned that they had summoned Aparupa for information and might call her again if needed. They are tasked with identifying the individuals present on the day in question and will issue another notice if necessary.
