Former West Bengal minister and ex-Trinamool Congress treasurer Aroop Biswas criticized the party leadership for not informing him about the use of party funds. This comes after a show-cause notice was issued to him regarding the freezing of party bank accounts. Biswas, in his capacity as treasurer, had requested the freezing of three Trinamool Congress accounts, sparking a dispute over control of party funds.
After the electoral defeat, the Trinamool Congress reshuffled its organization and appointed Subhasish Chakraborty as the new treasurer, replacing Aroop Biswas. However, Biswas claimed in a letter to a private bank that he still holds the position of treasurer within the party. The party has multiple accounts in a Kolkata bank branch, and transactions in these accounts were temporarily halted based on Biswas’ official letter.
In response to a show-cause notice, Aroop Biswas sent a detailed three-page letter making sensational claims about the party’s internal financial transactions. He alleged that despite being the treasurer, he was kept unaware of the actual financial dealings of the party. Biswas raised concerns about irregularities in transactions, including those involving cheques signed by him, and affirmed his loyalty to the Trinamool Congress and its leader Mamata Banerjee.
Amidst the controversy, police froze three Trinamool Congress bank accounts holding around Rs 440 crore. Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh described the issue as an internal matter, emphasizing communication with Biswas regarding the situation.
