Former Director General of Police Prof. (Dr.) Vikram Singh highlighted the importance of ethical conduct and public service in shaping a positive police image. He urged police personnel to move away from outdated mindsets and focus on building trust through actions rather than publicity. Singh cautioned against relying on media engagements for improving the police image and emphasized the need for genuine service.
Singh also stressed the significance of women’s safety and dignity in policing, citing examples of empathetic approaches by Kolkata Police and Uttarakhand Police. He called for respectful treatment of crime victims and impartial application of the law, especially in domestic disputes. Singh advocated for a shift towards data-centric policing and encouraged officers to serve with knowledge, integrity, and humanity.
At a workshop on Police Image and Best Practices in Policing at Rashtriya Raksha University, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Kalpesh H. Wandra discussed the evolution of Indian policing towards a predictive system using technology for crime prevention. He emphasized the importance of public trust and citizen participation in effective policing, aligning with the vision of SMART policing.
The event, attended by senior police officers from various states, focused on technology adoption, women’s safety, and community outreach in policing. Initiatives like Mission Karmayogi and programs promoting women in policing were highlighted as efforts towards a citizen-centric and specialized policing ecosystem. The workshop aimed to advance transparent, accountable, and service-oriented policing in line with the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
