Former West Bengal Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Sujit Bose, currently in judicial custody for alleged municipal recruitment corruption, participated in a virtual court session on Thursday.
During the hearing, Sujit Bose’s lawyer, similar to former Kolkata Police officer Shantanu Sinha Biswas and businessman Jay Kamdar, requested Grade One prisoner status for his client. However, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed this plea.
Deputy Solicitor General Dhiraj Trivedi, representing the ED, mentioned that summons were sent to Nitai Dutta, a Deputy Mayor, for questioning in connection with the case. Trivedi also noted the discovery of a list of appointed candidates and seized digital devices.
The ED’s lawyer expressed the agency’s intention to question individuals involved in the corruption case, emphasizing Sujit Bose’s influential status. In response, Sujit Bose’s lawyer highlighted that his client’s name was not in the Central Bureau of Investigation’s charge sheet and denied any involvement in money transactions.
Sujit Bose faces accusations of unlawfully recommending job candidates in the South Dum Dum Municipality, with approximately 150 names listed. The ED is investigating money trails into various bank accounts linked to the corruption. Bose was arrested on May 11 after raids on his residence, office, and a dhaba he operated.
