Aroop Biswas, the former West Bengal Sports Minister, has filed for anticipatory bail at a court in North 24 Parganas district. This move comes after an FIR was lodged against him in connection with vandalism at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan during Lionel Messi’s event last year. The FIR was based on a complaint by the main event organizer, Satadru Dutta.
The petition submitted by Biswas has been accepted, but the date for the initial hearing is pending confirmation. The FIR was filed by the police on May 30 following a complaint made by Satadru Dutta on May 17. Biswas, a four-time Trinamool Congress legislator, lost in the recent elections to the BJP’s Papiya Adhikari by a margin of over 6,000 votes.
Previously, during the Trinamool Congress rule, Satadru Dutta was arrested in connection with the same incident at Yuva Bharati. He was later released on bail. Dutta had lodged a complaint against Biswas and others on May 17, leading to the FIR against the former minister. The police are investigating allegations that Biswas was involved in black-marketing around 22,000 tickets for the Messi event.
