Former West Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas has been summoned once more by the Bidhannagar South Police Station regarding the alleged mismanagement at Argentine footballer Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour event. Biswas, who had previously avoided appearing despite multiple summons, finally visited the police station on June 18 for extensive questioning.
This time, he has been served a notice to appear for questioning about the December 13, 2025 incident at 10 a.m. on Tuesday (July 7). It remains uncertain whether he will comply with the summons. Biswas is accused of involvement in the mismanagement and chaos that marred Messi’s event at Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake, with an FIR filed against him by the main event organizer, Satadru Dutta.
Allegations of mismanagement led to Biswas being summoned multiple times for questioning. Seeking protection from coercive action, he had approached the Calcutta High Court, which initially granted him protection until July 2. Biswas only appeared before the police on June 18 after receiving this protection. Meanwhile, Satadru Dutta challenged the court’s protection order for Biswas but was unsuccessful in overturning it.
Satadru Dutta, who faced arrest following the event’s mismanagement, accused Biswas of taking 22,000 tickets for the event, out of a total of 70,000, and distributing or selling them. He also blamed Biswas for the chaos during Messi’s visit to Kolkata.
