Police in Ahmedabad arrested Vishal Gurjar, a former Youth Congress office-bearer and nephew of ex-Congress MLA Himmatsinh Patel, late Sunday night. The arrest was made following an incident where Gurjar allegedly drove drunk and collided with two parked cars near City Corner Hotel in Maninagar. The collision, which occurred between 11 pm and 1 am, resulted in visible damage to one car and a two-wheeler being knocked over.

Residents gathered at the scene shortly after the crash, prompting the arrival of personnel from Maninagar Police Station, including Police Inspector Y.J. Rathod. Inspector S.N. Patel confirmed that Gurjar, who is related to former Congress MLA Himmatsinh Patel, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Prohibition Act.

Gurjar, who was released on bail following legal procedures, was driving a car with black window film and an NSUI plate at the time of the incident. Authorities are now investigating the presence of the black film and NSUI plate on the vehicle. No complaints have been lodged by the owners of the damaged vehicles yet. Inspector Patel stated that further actions in the case will be taken in accordance with the law.

A similar incident involving a Youth Congress district president in Vadodara was reported in 2022 when the individual was caught drunk driving during a highway check.
