Four individuals from Uttar Pradesh have been apprehended by Chamoli Police for allegedly pilfering power line construction items valued at Rs 8 lakh from Karnaprayag. The stolen goods were swiftly recovered within a day, as confirmed by police officials.
The arrested suspects, identified as Mohd. Danish (23), Chand Mohammad (20), Farman (30), and Sueb (23), hail from various districts in Uttar Pradesh. The theft, reported by site engineer Nakul Kumar of T.S. Power Corporation Limited on July 4, involved the disappearance of PVC (ABC) cable, aluminum wire, and hardware materials intended for a power line replacement project under the RDSS scheme in Karnaprayag.
Prompted by the gravity of the situation, Chamoli SP Surjit Singh Panwar directed immediate action, leading to the formation of a police team under Karnaprayag Circle Officer Trivendra Singh Rana. Following thorough investigations and CCTV footage analysis, the police intercepted a suspicious ‘Chhota Hathi’ vehicle, leading to the recovery of the entire stolen consignment and the on-the-spot arrest of the culprits.
