Four individuals have been confirmed dead following a building collapse in Angeles City, Philippines. Search and rescue operations are ongoing for 17 individuals who remain missing. Among the casualties was a Malaysian national who was staying at a nearby apartelle and was killed by falling debris.
According to reports, 26 individuals have been rescued so far, with ten survivors sustaining injuries and receiving medical treatment. The collapse occurred after heavy rainfall and strong winds hit the city on Saturday night. Rescue efforts are being hampered by hazardous conditions at the site, including unstable debris and live power lines posing risks to emergency responders.
Authorities have evacuated nearby residents as a safety precaution. One of the deceased was a 65-year-old Malaysian national whose body was recovered from a neighboring hotel building affected by the collapse. The fire bureau spokeswoman highlighted the challenges of conducting rescue operations in a collapsed building, emphasizing the risks associated with any sudden movements that could endanger both rescuers and potential survivors.
Records indicate that the collapsed building was originally planned as a nine-storey condo-hotel, with construction underway for an additional 10th floor featuring a swimming pool.
