Four individuals tragically lost their lives in a drowning incident at Gangapur Dam in Nashik, Maharashtra. The victims were identified as Ganesh Gotarne, Sahil Gotarne, and Nikhil Gotarne, all aged 16 and residents of Savargaon, along with Mayuri Jadhav, 21, from Talegaon Anjaneri. The incident occurred after a family gathering for a traditional feast when the group decided to visit the spillway area of the dam.
Reports indicate that the group, including the victims and other family members, entered the water for recreation. Despite the water initially seeming shallow, they were unaware of sudden depth changes and hidden pits. Tragedy struck when one of the youths ventured into deeper waters and began struggling, leading to a chain of events where others tried to rescue him but got caught in the strong currents.
Following the distressing incident, a survivor rushed back to the village to seek help, prompting local youths to initiate rescue efforts. Despite their swift actions, three teenagers and Mayuri Jadhav could not be saved. The bodies were eventually recovered after a search operation by villagers before being sent for post-mortem examinations at the District Government Hospital.
