At least four individuals lost their lives, and 32 sustained injuries during clashes in Badakhshan province, northeastern Afghanistan. Two fatalities and eight injuries occurred in the Argo district due to clashes related to the Taliban’s attempts to destroy poppy fields. In the Shukai district, two individuals were killed, and ten were wounded in clashes concerning mining operations. Additionally, 11 people were injured in the Khash district and three in the Jurm district during altercations between locals and Taliban forces.
Residents reported heightened tensions across various districts, with communities on alert and some roads to the Khash district blocked. The Taliban deployed extra forces in parts of Badakhshan to address the unrest. The province’s significant mineral deposits have led to armed confrontations over access to mining sites involving locals, commanders, and Taliban affiliates.
