Four individuals tragically lost their lives when a car went out of control and fell around 500 meters into a deep gorge in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. The incident occurred on the Jharipani-Kolukhet shortcut road at approximately 9 a.m., prompting a large-scale rescue operation involving various emergency agencies.
Emergency teams, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire services, and medical personnel, swiftly responded to the scene after the fatal accident was reported. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the car had made a brief stop at a roadside shop before the tragedy unfolded.
The car, carrying four occupants, reportedly started rolling down the slope uncontrollably after the passengers re-entered the vehicle. Despite efforts to regain control, the car veered off the road, crossed an open area, and plunged into the gorge. Rescue operations faced challenges due to the rugged terrain and dense vegetation surrounding the crash site.
Authorities identified the deceased as Satyaprakash from Haryana’s Sonipat, Manit (19), Savita (48) from Ghaziabad, and Sangeeta (46) from Delhi. The rescue teams, after hours of strenuous efforts, recovered all four bodies from the gorge. Initial investigations suggest brake failure as a possible cause of the accident, with a comprehensive inquiry underway to determine the exact circumstances.
Senior police officials have arrived at the site to oversee the rescue operations and investigate the incident further. Families of the victims have been notified, and necessary procedures are being followed while the bodies are being prepared for formalities.
