Kylian Mbappe and the French Football Association have criticized Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla for her racist comments mocking Mbappe’s origin after the World Cup match between France and Paraguay. Amarilla, a member of Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, faced backlash for her remarks following Paraguay’s defeat by France in the World Cup last-16 clash. Mbappe expressed his disapproval, calling Amarilla “despicable” and unfit for her position, emphasizing that her actions do not represent Paraguay.
The French Football Federation also denounced Amarilla’s racist statements against Mbappe, labeling them as “abhorrent and unacceptable.” The Federation emphasized that such remarks are criminal and must be legally addressed, as they insult not only Mbappe but also the entire French National Team and the country. In response, the Government of Paraguay distanced itself from Amarilla’s comments, emphasizing that her views do not align with the nation’s values of peaceful coexistence and human dignity.
Mbappe, who scored his seventh goal in the FIFA World Cup 2026, led France to a 1-0 victory over Paraguay, setting up a quarter-final clash with Morocco.
