France’s Moise Kouame, a rising star in French tennis, advanced to the third round of the French Open after a thrilling five-set victory over Adolfo Daniel Vallejo. At just 17 years old, Kouame made history by becoming the youngest man to reach this stage of a major tournament since Rafael Nadal in 2003.
Expressing his excitement, Kouame mentioned that winning Roland Garros and becoming World No. 1 are dreams for him. Despite acknowledging that it’s early to think about winning the tournament, he is determined to give his best in the upcoming matches.
Kouame’s impressive performance adds to the narrative of young talent at the French Open this year. Alongside two other teenagers, Rafael Jodar and Joao Fonseca, Kouame forms the first trio of teenagers to reach the third round at a major since 2006, a feat previously achieved by Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Gael Monfils.
The Frenchman’s journey at the tournament began with a notable victory over Marin Cilic, and his victory over Vallejo showcased his athleticism and skill. Despite Vallejo’s strong performance, Kouame’s determination and support from the crowd propelled him to a memorable fifth-set victory.
Kouame’s remarkable run has elevated him to No. 210 in the ATP Live Rankings, and he is set to face Alejandro Tabilo in the next round.
