A controversy has emerged in Karnataka as Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader requested Home Minister G. Parameshwara to reconsider and potentially drop cases against “innocent Muslim youth” linked to the 2022 Ladle Mashak Dargah violence incident. This action has reignited the Ladle Mashak Dargah dispute in Aland town of Kalaburagi district, which sparked unrest in 2022. Khader’s appeal to the government aims to review the case and dismiss charges against those he believes were wrongly accused.
The Speaker’s plea has faced opposition from Hindu groups, including Shiv Sena, who have criticized the request and cautioned against withdrawing the cases. They argue that the violence was severe and any move to dismiss charges could lead to widespread protests. Hindu organizations have expressed concerns that such actions may convey a negative message and compromise justice for the affected individuals. They have demanded a fair investigation and adherence to legal procedures.
The incident at Ladle Mashak Dargah, where the Sri Raghav Chaitanya Shivalinga is situated, led to escalated tensions following allegations of desecration. Subsequently, members of Hindu organizations visited the site for purification rituals, resulting in violent clashes, including stone-pelting on vehicles and individuals. Numerous people, including a Union Minister, district officials, and Hindu leaders, were injured during the unrest.
In the aftermath of the violence, Aland police filed cases against numerous individuals, including a key accused named Ansari. However, Khader has contended that several innocent Muslim youths were wrongly implicated and is advocating for the charges against them to be dropped. This development has once again highlighted the Ladle Mashak Dargah case, potentially reigniting political and communal tensions in the state.
