A new petition has been submitted to the Delhi High Court, seeking criminal contempt proceedings against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and an investigative journalist. The petition alleges that the respondents conducted a coordinated campaign on social media against Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. The matter is set to be heard by a Division Bench of Justices Navin Chawla and Ravinder Dudeja.
The petition claims that the accused engaged in publishing scandalous and contemptuous content against Justice Sharma on a social media platform. This action occurred after the trial court discharged the accused in an alleged excise policy corruption case. The petition further alleges that attempts were made to transfer the case and later seek the judge’s recusal.
Allegations state that while the recusal application was pending, the respondents initiated a social media campaign targeting Justice Sharma. The impugned posts aimed to depict the judge as biased and raised allegations of conflict of interest. The petitioner seeks criminal contempt proceedings, arguing that the actions of the respondents are calculated to scandalize the Court and interfere with the administration of justice.
