A political controversy has arisen in Bihar regarding the allocation of ministerial bungalows. The state government has assigned the prominent residence at 5 Desh Ratna Marg in Patna to Nishant Kumar, sparking attention. This bungalow is situated next to Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s official residence, which was previously occupied by him.
The bungalow at 5 Desh Ratna Marg became available after a plan to merge it with the Chief Minister’s residence was canceled. Following a reshuffle of official residences by the state’s Building Construction Department, Nishant Kumar has been allotted this bungalow. Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been assigned the bungalow at 7 Circular Road, located adjacent to Nishant Kumar’s new residence.
Before this reallocation, Nishant Kumar resided at the bungalow at 2 Desh Ratna Marg, which has now been reassigned to Ram Kripal Yadav. Initially intended for Prem Kumar, the bungalow at 2 Desh Ratna Marg was occupied by the Speaker, leading to the revised allotment. The controversy surrounding the residence at 10 Circular Road, involving former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, remains unresolved.
The Bihar government has issued a 15-day notice to Rabri Devi to vacate the bungalow at 10 Circular Road, with the deadline approaching. Despite moving a significant portion of her belongings, the bungalow has not been fully vacated yet. Rabri Devi has been allotted a new residence at 39 Harding Road as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council. However, she seems hesitant to relocate there and may opt for a private residence instead.
