Parts of Delhi-NCR experienced fresh rainfall early Thursday, providing relief from the recent humid weather. The showers lowered temperatures but led to minor waterlogging in some areas, affecting normal movement. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Delhi, warning of heavy rainfall and urging caution.
The continuous rainfall resulted in waterlogging at various locations, including the New Delhi Railway Station and Munirka. While the showers alleviated humidity, they also caused disruptions due to water accumulation on roads. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity is expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh until July 10, as per the IMD.
The weather department forecasts more rain in northeastern Uttar Pradesh until July 13, with eastern Rajasthan likely to experience similar rainfall on July 9. A recent active monsoon spell in North India brought widespread showers, offering relief from intense heat and humidity. Data from the IMD shows varying rainfall levels across Delhi-NCR between July 8 and July 9.
Notable rainfall figures in Delhi include 83 mm in Mehrauli, 79 mm in Lodi Road, 73 mm in Pusa, 68 mm in Chhatarpur, and 66 mm in Mayur Vihar. Janakpuri received 62 mm, Narayana 57 mm, Pragati Maidan 46 mm, Najafgarh 42 mm, Mungeshpur 40 mm, Jharoda Kalan 33 mm, and Jafarpur had the lowest at 6 mm.
