The funeral for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is set to commence on July 4 in Tehran. Farewell ceremonies will take place at Imam Khomeini’s Mosalla prayer hall on July 4-5, with funeral processions in Tehran and Qom on July 6-7. The final funeral ceremony will be held in Mashhad on July 9, followed by his burial at the holy shrine of Imam Reza on the same day.
Ali Khamenei, the long-serving supreme leader of Iran, was reportedly killed in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on February 28. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was subsequently chosen as Iran’s new supreme leader in early March. The US and Israel’s attack in March marked a significant turning point in Iran’s Shia-theocratic rule, leading to retaliatory actions by Tehran in the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the killing of the 86-year-old cleric, ending his 36-year rule over Iran. Trump mentioned on Truth Social that the operation was successful due to advanced intelligence and tracking systems. Additionally, four relatives of Khamenei, including his daughter, grandchild, and son-in-law, were reported to have been killed in the US-Israeli strikes.
