Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has pledged comprehensive assistance to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma for enhancing National Highways and major road networks in the state. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity in the mountainous region. The meeting between Lalduhoma and Gadkari in New Delhi focused on crucial road infrastructure projects.
Lalduhoma emphasized the need to upgrade the Aizawl-Thenzawl road to a National Highway, to which Gadkari mentioned that the Detailed Project Report is in progress and steps are being taken for early approval. Additionally, discussions included strengthening the Mamit–Bairabi stretch of National Highway 6, with Gadkari assuring prompt sanctioning of the project.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the necessity for improvements on the Vairengte–New Vervek stretch (NH-306A). Gadkari indicated that approval would be granted once corrections are made to the proposal by the state Public Works Department. Furthermore, Gadkari advised the state government to explore cost reduction strategies for land acquisition related to upgrading the NH-502 stretch from Zero Point to Siaha into a double-lane road.
Highlighting connectivity issues with Tripura, Lalduhoma stressed the urgency of funds for constructing the Teirei Bridge and Langkaih Bridge on the NH-108/NH-44A route. Gadkari instructed the submission of revised DPRs promptly for swift approval, in line with MoRTH guidelines. Discussions also involved the proposal for more concrete roads in Mizoram to enhance durability, with suggestions for cost reduction through collaboration with cement manufacturers.
