One member of a gang involved in a scam where they posed as policemen and conducted a raid to deceive a local businessman of Rs two crore has been apprehended, as per the police on Sunday. The incident occurred at the businessman’s office on Pratapaditya Road in south Kolkata on July 10. The gang, pretending to be law enforcement officers, confiscated Rs 2 crore from the businessman’s office after intimidating the employees and fleeing the scene.
A search operation is now in progress to capture the remaining members of the gang. The arrested individual was found with Rs 5 lakh, which was recovered by the authorities. The gang members, armed with fake police identity cards, coerced the businessman and his staff to reveal the location of the money in the office. They then looted the cash and absconded, leaving the victims in shock.
Following the incident, the victims reported the crime to the police at the Tollygunge police station. The Kolkata Police, along with the Intelligence Department, initiated an investigation and identified the culprits through CCTV footage. Subsequently, one suspect was arrested and is currently being interrogated. The police are actively pursuing the other gang members and working towards recovering the stolen funds.
