India head coach Gautam Gambhir attributed Sanju Samson’s crucial 97 runs against the West Indies as the pivotal moment in India’s successful campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Gambhir expressed the emotional significance of winning a World Cup as the head coach of India, emphasizing the privilege of representing the country once again.

Reflecting on the importance of family support and the pride of fans, Gambhir highlighted the special feeling of making 140 crore Indians proud. Throughout the tournament, Gambhir consistently reminded the team that representing India is a privilege, not a right, urging them to focus on impact rather than personal achievements.

Gambhir praised the team’s fearless approach and emphasized the importance of staying in the present moment during T20 games. He singled out Sanju Samson’s innings against the West Indies as the turning point of the campaign, noting the match’s significance as a virtual quarter-final for India.

The coach commended the players for their adaptability in different roles and batting positions, citing examples of flexibility shown by key players like Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube. Gambhir also lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his versatility with the ball, stating that the combination of fearless cricket, adaptability, and standout performances led India to a historic T20 World Cup triumph on home soil.
