Bollywood actress Genelia Deshmukh recently donned a bespoke Nauvari saree at the trailer launch of her upcoming historical action drama “Raja Shivaji.” She expressed that the traditional attire symbolizes her roots and accompanies her wherever she goes. The saree, made of Himroo weave and Ahimsa silk fabric, holds a special place for her, representing the blend of strength and grace.
The movie, directed by her husband Riteish Deshmukh, delves into the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his battles against the Mughals to establish swaraj. Riteish portrays the lead role, with Genelia playing his on-screen wife, Saibai. Scheduled for a global multilingual release on May 1, 2026, “Raja Shivaji” aims to bring the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to audiences worldwide.
The film features monumental sets that were meticulously crafted over six months to capture the essence and grandeur of 16th-century Maharashtra. Genelia and Riteish, who met during the filming of “Tujhe Meri Kasam” in 2003, tied the knot in February 2012. Following Marathi traditions, they had a Christian wedding the next day. The couple welcomed their first child, Riaan, in November 2014, and their second son, Rahyl, in June 2016.
