Four German passengers were evacuated from the cruise ship MV Hondius after a Hantavirus outbreak, as reported by German public broadcaster ARD. Upon landing in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, they received specialized care before being transported to Frankfurt. These passengers will undergo quarantine upon arrival in their respective home states, with one individual scheduled for admission to the Charite hospital in Berlin.
A 65-year-old German woman has already been hospitalized in Duesseldorf due to close contact with a deceased passenger who succumbed to the virus onboard. Authorities have not detected any signs of infection in her yet. None of the returning passengers have exhibited symptoms, according to the report.
In a separate incident, twenty British nationals from the same cruise ship were isolated in a hospital in northwest England upon their return. They landed in Manchester and were subsequently taken to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral, Merseyside, for a 72-hour medical observation period. The group will undergo clinical assessment and testing in a managed setting, with plans for self-isolation for an additional 42 days if symptom-free.
The British government has mandated a total of 45 days of isolation and monitoring for all passengers and crew members returning from the MV Hondius. Contact tracing efforts are also in progress for individuals who may have had exposure to confirmed or suspected cases.
