Just 10 kilometers from Burhanpur district headquarters in Madhya Pradesh, the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Girls’ Hostel in village Daryapur is showcasing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. The hostel accommodates 50 Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe girls from nearby rural areas, focusing on education and imparting skills for self-reliance.
Apart from academic studies, the girls are receiving training in self-employment activities, aligning with campaigns like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local. Hostel superintendent Jyoti Bala Singh has initiated a program teaching girls to create various products from banana fiber, including decorative items, bird nests, clocks, caps, and mirrors.
The initiative aims to empower underprivileged and tribal girls early on, equipping them with self-reliance skills for the future. The girls enthusiastically participate in the training, recognizing it as a valuable opportunity to enhance their capabilities alongside their education.
Hostel superintendent Jyoti Bala Chauhan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring policies that promote women’s empowerment and self-reliance. She highlighted how the girls not only receive education but also gain practical skills for self-sufficiency.
Students at the hostel, such as Jyoti Dawar, Soni More, and Dhudhari Chauhan, expressed gratitude towards the government and their teachers for providing skill-based training alongside their academic curriculum. Learning these skills has significantly boosted their confidence, with all students appreciating the chance to become self-reliant.
