The government of Goa has announced a partnership with Starlink Satellite Communications, led by Elon Musk, to bolster digital infrastructure and connectivity in the state. This collaboration with the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) aims to explore advanced connectivity solutions for digital inclusion, public infrastructure, coastal safety, and emergency response capabilities in Goa.
Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for digital transformation and enhancing citizens’ lives through this partnership with Starlink. The Minister for ITE&C, Rohan Khaunte, highlighted that this alliance would revolutionize Goa’s governance landscape by utilizing modern technology to enhance efficiency, bridge the digital divide, and improve public services.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), DITE&C and Starlink will collaborate on digital connectivity, disaster resilience, and smart governance initiatives within Goa. Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited, the Indian entity for SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet services, will pilot connectivity solutions in various sectors, including government schools, healthcare facilities, and disaster management centers.
The partnership aims to enhance emergency preparedness, provide training for capacity building, and explore cost-effective tariff structures for socially beneficial purposes. It will also support smart governance, tourism, and coastal development by offering connectivity solutions for public infrastructure and services. Goa’s government reiterates its dedication to digital transformation, aiming to drive innovation, economic growth, and citizen welfare through technology, thereby creating a sustainable digital ecosystem for the future.
