The government addressed reports on the wheat production outlook for 2025–26, emphasizing stability despite localized weather impacts. The Agriculture Ministry highlighted increased acreage, improved practices, and varietal adoption supporting the resilient wheat production. This season, spanning 33.4 million hectares, saw no pest or disease issues due to early sowing, leading to expanded cultivation compared to the previous year.
Wheat procurement in Haryana exceeded the 75 LMT target, with 56.13 LMT already acquired, showcasing a notable increase from the previous year. In Madhya Pradesh, the procurement target was raised to 100 LMT from 78 LMT due to high production estimates. Maharashtra’s wheat production for 2025-26 is estimated at 22.90 lakh tonnes, showing a steady rise, especially in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions.
Despite challenges like heat stress and untimely rainfall affecting grain quality, the overall production outlook remains positive. The government noted no significant yield losses from pests or diseases, attributing the optimistic outlook to factors like increased cultivation, early sowing, and improved varietal adoption. The additional 0.6 million hectares planted in 2025-26 is expected to mitigate localized losses, supported by high-yielding and climate-resilient varieties.
