The government refuted claims circulating on Sunday that Aadhaar cards would be simplified to include only a photograph and QR code, emphasizing that no such proposal is being considered. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology clarified that reports suggesting changes in Aadhaar’s format are inaccurate and causing confusion among the public.
According to an official statement, the ministry stated that rumors on social media about Aadhaar cards being reduced to just a photo and QR code by the year-end are false. It stressed that there are no plans for such alterations and cautioned against believing misleading information.
The ministry advised individuals to trust official updates from the Unique Identification Authority of India via verified channels and press releases from PIB. It also urged media platforms to refrain from amplifying unverified content to prevent unnecessary confusion.
Amid increasing online speculation about a potential redesign of Aadhaar, the government reiterated that no decisions have been made and urged citizens to disregard misleading posts. The significance of this clarification is underscored by Aadhaar’s status as the world’s largest biometric identification system.
