The government announced that India’s total primary energy supply for 2024-25 is projected at 39,055 Petajoules, up from 37,936 Petajoules in the previous year. Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh revealed that the country’s renewable energy potential stands at 4,704,043 MW as of March 2025, a significant increase from 2,109,655 MW in March 2024.
One petajoule equals 1,015 joules or 278 gigawatt hours, providing a scale for understanding these energy figures. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has implemented efficient mechanisms to ensure the timely collection and publication of official statistics, enhancing data accuracy and transparency.
To streamline data collection processes, the Ministry utilizes digital platforms like Computer Assisted Personal Interview and e-SIGMA system, incorporating advanced features such as real-time data monitoring and AI-enabled chatbots. These initiatives have significantly reduced the time taken to release survey data, with quarterly results now available within 45-60 days of completion.
In a move towards transparency, anonymized unit-level survey data is accessible through the Ministry’s Microdata Portal, empowering researchers and policymakers to utilize official statistics for evidence-based decision-making. Additionally, the Ministry has revised the base years for key economic indicators like Gross Domestic Product, Industrial Production Index, and Consumer Price Index to align with evolving economic structures and international standards.
