The government announced that a 40 metric tonne consignment of biscuits from Varanasi has been exported to Oman. This export was made possible after the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement was signed. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) played a key role in facilitating this export.
The Commerce Ministry stated that this shipment signifies the first export of biscuits from Varanasi to Oman post the CEPA agreement. It highlights the increasing export potential of processed food products from the region. Additionally, it showcases APEDA’s ongoing efforts to boost exports from emerging agri-export hubs in India.
Shree Tirupati Balajee Industries Pvt Ltd, a Varanasi-based manufacturer-exporter, carried out this export consignment. This initiative is seen as a significant move towards connecting the region’s processed food sector with global markets and expanding the reach of value-added food products from Uttar Pradesh. The consignment will travel from Varanasi to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Kanpur for customs clearance before being shipped to Oman via Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT).
The export holds importance in light of the strengthening trade and economic ties between India and Oman under the CEPA framework. It is anticipated to enhance market access and open up new avenues for Indian exporters, especially in the agricultural and processed food domains. APEDA has revealed plans for more shipments to Oman in the near future, reflecting the rising demand and market prospects for processed food products from the region. The authority has been actively supporting the exporter through various initiatives, including participation in trade fairs like ‘AAHAR 2026’ and ‘Gulfood 2026’.
