The government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has significantly improved access to financial inclusion, healthcare, housing, tap water, clean fuel, and social security over the past 12 years. A factsheet from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s office highlights the success of various initiatives. Notably, the Jan Dhan bank accounts for the poor have surpassed 58.15 crore, with total deposits exceeding Rs 3 lakh crore, marking a substantial achievement.
The Jan Dhan Yojana-Aadhaar-Mobile initiative, known as the “JAM Trinity,” has played a crucial role in enhancing financial inclusion and ensuring efficient delivery of government welfare schemes to the intended beneficiaries. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), the number of Ayushman Bharat cards has reached 44 crore, providing health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to 12 crore families.
Furthermore, the government has issued 15.7 crore tap water connections, constructed over 12 crore toilets, and provided electric connections to 2.9 crore households under various schemes. The Union Cabinet’s recent approval to restructure the Jal Jeevan Mission aims to enhance service delivery for rural piped potable water supply, with an increased outlay of Rs 8.69 lakh crore and significant Central assistance.
The factsheet also mentions the issuance of 10 crore LPG connections for cooking gas to poor households and the construction of 4 crore pucca houses for underprivileged families as part of the government’s initiatives.
