The government has released a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the Viksit Bharat-G RAM G Act, 2025. This legislation aims to ensure 125 days of unskilled wage employment for rural households, aligning with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047.’ Effective from July 1, 2026, this Act will replace the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme.
The Act guarantees 125 days of wage employment annually to eligible rural households whose adult members are willing to engage in unskilled manual work. State Governments are mandated to formulate schemes in line with the Act’s provisions within a specified period post its commencement. Ongoing Mahatma Gandhi NREGA works will continue under the new Act, ensuring completion and community benefits.
State Governments are required to ensure uninterrupted employment opportunities and timely wage payments by allocating sufficient labor budgets. In cases where ongoing works are insufficient to meet demand, new works consistent with the Act’s guidelines may be initiated. The Act enhances the employment guarantee from 100 to 125 days per financial year for rural households.
