In a significant move to achieve the vision of “Viksit Maharashtra 2047” and enhance global competitiveness, the Government of Maharashtra has reorganized the Directorate of Industries into three specialized commissionerates. This decision, endorsed by the State Cabinet, has been implemented immediately following a Government Resolution issued by P Anbalagan, the Principal Secretary of the Industries Department.
The new structure includes the Commissionerate of Industries, responsible for overseeing large industrial projects, the Commissionerate of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) focusing on MSME scheme implementation, and the Commissionerate of Services guiding service-sector industries and emerging technologies. Specialized cells like the MAITRI Cell and Invest Maharashtra will operate under the Commissioner of Industries.
Moreover, the headquarters for the MSME Commissionerate, Services Commissionerate, and Invest Maharashtra will be based in Mumbai. The industries department has requested 30,000 sq ft of space in the recently acquired Air India building. Additionally, the Sub-Divisional Office in Nanded has been shut down, with its jurisdiction now under the Regional Office at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
A revised staffing framework has been approved, including a total of 1,373 positions across all offices, with an estimated additional annual financial burden of Rs 35.96 crore. New senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre positions have been established, and a dedicated cell under the Commissioner of Industries has been formed. The state aims to grow into a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2029-30 and a five-trillion-dollar economy by 2047 in line with the Vision Maharashtra 2047 mission.
