The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to collaborate on strengthening India’s skills and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem.
MSDE and WEF will launch a Skills Accelerator in India, a platform focused on identifying, scaling, and accelerating innovative solutions and partnerships to address skills gaps in the workforce. This initiative aims to align skilling initiatives with industry demands and the global economy.
The collaboration between MSDE and WEF aims to reinforce skilling as a crucial element of inclusive growth and national transformation. The Skills Accelerator will play a key role in promoting lifelong learning, upskilling, and reskilling to address skills gaps effectively.
Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, highlighted that this partnership aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing the integration of education with skilling and aligning curricula with future industry needs. The initiative will focus on flexible curriculum, vocational and higher education integration, mutual recognition of qualifications, and capacity building across institutions.
MSDE will closely collaborate with higher education institutions, vocational training bodies, and regulatory bodies like AICTE and UGC to raise awareness, implement, and scale the Skills Accelerator. This partnership signifies a significant step in India and WEF relations, building on the momentum from India’s participation at the 55th WEF Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, in January 2025.
