The government announced that as of December 31, a total of 1,788 applications worth Rs 8,599 crore have been received under the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Exporters (CGSE). Out of these, 716 applications amounting to Rs 3,141 crore have been sanctioned, indicating strong confidence among exporters and MSMEs.
The CGSE scheme, operational until March 31, 2026, or until guarantees totaling Rs 20,000 crore are issued, is managed by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) through the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited (NCGTC). Implemented via the Jan Samarth Portal since December 1, the scheme allows banks and financial institutions to provide additional financial support to Indian exporters amidst challenging times.
This initiative aims to expand export markets and boost global competitiveness, offering credit guarantees to exporters and MSMEs to facilitate increased credit availability. The scheme provides collateral-free credit support of up to Rs 20,000 crore to direct and indirect exporter MSMEs through eligible Member Lending Institutions (MLIs).
With the goal of enhancing global competitiveness and exploring new markets, the CGSE enables exporters and MSMEs to access working capital loans equivalent to 20% of their existing export credit/working capital limits. This support is crucial for over 45 million individuals employed directly and indirectly in export-oriented industries, with MSMEs contributing nearly 45% of total exports.
