The Odisha Cabinet has greenlighted 10 major proposals, including the Tourism Department’s innovative “Land Bank for Hospitality Infrastructure” scheme. This initiative aims to bolster tourism-led economic growth by facilitating substantial investments in the hospitality sector throughout the state. The Cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, took place at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
One of the significant decisions made was the approval of the Tourism Department’s “Land Bank for Hospitality Infrastructure” scheme. This scheme is designed to address the challenges faced by hospitality investors in acquiring suitable land parcels across Odisha. The State Cabinet endorsed the establishment of a specialized Tourism Land Bank under the Department of Tourism to tackle this issue.
Under this scheme, around 5,500 acres of government and private land will be earmarked and developed in key tourism destinations across Odisha. These areas, including Chilika, Konark, Puri (Shamuka), and others, will be equipped with essential infrastructure like electricity, water supply, and road connectivity to attract potential investors in the hospitality sector.
Chief Secretary Anu Garg mentioned that the Cabinet also approved the implementation of the ‘Waterfront Development Scheme’ by the Housing and Urban Development Department with a budget of Rs 500 crore over five years. This initiative aims to revitalize riverfronts and urban water bodies in selected cities, transforming them into vibrant and sustainable public spaces.
