The government will introduce the Smart Warehousing System for foodgrain storage to enhance India’s food security infrastructure. The Department of Food and Public Distribution will inaugurate this system on June 18 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, with Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi in attendance. This technology-driven solution aims to improve warehouse management practices and efficiency in foodgrain storage operations.
The Smart Warehousing System will play a crucial role in creating a modern warehousing ecosystem to facilitate efficient foodgrain management and bolster long-term food security outcomes. It aligns with the Government’s initiatives such as Digital India, IndiaAI Mission, PM GatiShakti, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, as highlighted by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. The system will incorporate advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), automation, and analytics to enhance warehouse operations and governance mechanisms.
This initiative is part of the Department’s efforts to digitally transform and modernize the foodgrain supply chain. By leveraging technologies such as AI, IoT, automation, and analytics, the Smart Warehousing System aims to automate gate and weighbridge operations, enable digital access management, monitor warehouse conditions intelligently, enhance inventory visibility, and provide real-time operational oversight through integrated dashboards. The program will also acknowledge warehouses excelling under the Depot Darpan assessment framework, which focuses on infrastructure, operations, safety, hygiene, and service readiness.
