A total of 20,149 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been established nationwide, leading to estimated savings of around Rs 45,000 crore for citizens through the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Yojna. Union Minister Chemicals and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda highlighted that over the past 12 years, these savings have significantly reduced out-of-pocket expenses for households when compared to branded medicine prices. The initiative’s product range includes 2,110 medicines and 315 surgicals, covering various therapeutic categories like cardiovascular, anti-cancer, and anti-diabetic medications.

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Yojna has expanded its coverage to 776 out of 784 districts in the country, offering almost all generic medicines listed in the National List of Essential Medicines. Additionally, the scheme incentivizes the stocking of 200 commonly used medicines, encouraging Jan Aushadhi Kendra owners with monthly incentives based on their stock levels. The Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India continuously evaluates these Kendras to ensure their sales performance and the scheme’s effectiveness in enhancing access to quality generic medicines at affordable prices nationwide.

The PMBJP scheme has notably enhanced the availability of essential medicines by establishing a widespread network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country. To maintain adequate stock levels and prevent shortages, continuous monitoring and corrective actions are implemented. Moreover, awareness campaigns conducted by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India, in collaboration with various platforms like the Central Bureau of Communication and PIB, aim to promote the acceptance and sales of medicines provided through Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
