The government announced on Wednesday that the new Aadhaar app has been widely embraced by the public, garnering more than 21 million downloads in just three months. Users are utilizing the app for various services, including easy updates of mobile numbers and addresses at their convenience. Notably, over 2.8 million individuals have already updated their mobile numbers through the app, with nearly 600,000 users updating their addresses.
The new Aadhaar app, available on Android and Apple iOS platforms, is a cutting-edge mobile application aimed at providing Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH) a secure and user-friendly way to manage their identity. It boasts features like face verification for proof of presence, one-click biometric lock/unlock, authentication history, and a QR-based editable contact card for seamless sharing of contact information.
With a broad spectrum of practical applications, the app facilitates tasks such as hotel check-ins through QR code scanning, age verification, hospital admissions, visitor management, event registrations, and identity verification for gig workers and service partners. The growing adoption of the app not only reflects residents’ trust but also underscores its role in enhancing accessibility and user-friendliness of Aadhaar services, thereby improving the overall experience for Aadhaar number holders.
Meanwhile, within three months of launching Aadhaar-based offline verification, at least 100 entities have been integrated as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs). This achievement by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) signifies a significant advancement in enabling secure, consent-driven, and paperless identity verification using Aadhaar without the need for real-time access to central databases.
