Rising concerns over fuel prices and the government’s emphasis on clean mobility are driving the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in Surat, Gujarat. Buyers are increasingly opting for EVs due to lower running costs, tax benefits, and improved charging infrastructure. Assistant RTO Ankit Shah highlighted the strong public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to embrace electric mobility and reduce reliance on traditional fuels.
The surge in EV popularity is evident in the rising registration of electric vehicles in Surat. Shah attributed this growth to the expanding charging infrastructure and government incentives, including subsidies and tax benefits for EV owners. The tax rate for electric vehicles has been reduced to 1 per cent, significantly lower than the 6 per cent imposed on petrol and diesel vehicles.
Dealerships in Surat are witnessing a growing interest in EVs, with consumers considering electric options amidst global tensions and fuel price uncertainties. Sales Manager Shagun Soni from Cargo Group BYD Car Dealer reported a substantial increase in sales, with nearly 90 cars sold in the past three months. Positive consumer response and confidence in the brand’s future growth in India are driving the dealership’s optimism.
Consumers in Surat are also gravitating towards global EV brands and advanced battery technology when making purchasing decisions. EV buyer Dhiraj Jha shared his preference for BYD after thorough online research on the company’s products and global reputation. Jha highlighted BYD’s prominence as a leading battery manufacturer, even supplying batteries to Tesla, reinforcing his confidence in the brand’s reliability and market presence.
