The gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in June increased by 13.9% year-on-year to Rs 1.94 lakh crore, as per official data. This growth was primarily fueled by a significant rise in revenues from imports. Specifically, GST revenue from imports surged by 34.6% to Rs 60,038 crore, while domestic GST revenue saw a 6.5% increase to Rs 1,34,774 crore during the same period.
Net GST collections, accounting for refunds, also saw a notable 11.2% year-on-year growth to Rs 1,62,377 crore in June, compared to Rs 1,45,984 crore a year earlier. Total GST refunds escalated nearly 30% to Rs 32,436 crore in June, with domestic refunds climbing by 42.9% to Rs 17,767 crore and refunds on exports through ICEGATE rising by 15.6% to Rs 14,669 crore.
The data further revealed that net domestic GST revenue grew by 2.6% to Rs 1,17,007 crore, while net customs GST revenue surged by 42.2% to Rs 45,370 crore, reflecting robust import-related tax collections. Cumulatively, gross GST collections for the April-June period of the current fiscal year increased by 8.4% to Rs 6,31,699 crore from Rs 5,82,542 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Meanwhile, net GST revenue for the first three months of FY27 rose by 7.1% year-on-year to Rs 5,40,218 crore, with total refunds during the period increasing by 16.8% to Rs 91,482 crore. In May, gross GST collections grew over 3% year-on-year, reaching Rs 1,94,184 crore compared to Rs 1,88,172 crore in the same month last year.
