Ahmedabad, Aug 11 (IANS) The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) recorded its highest-ever passenger count and daily revenue on a working day on August 10, with 6,31,761 passengers using its bus services and revenue reaching Rs 39,77,935.

A total of 970 AMTS buses operated on the roads on Monday, carrying more than 6.31 lakh passengers during the day.

According to AMTS, both the ridership and revenue figures were the highest recorded so far for a working day.

The transport service said the figures came as it continued efforts to provide accessible, reliable and wider public transport services across Ahmedabad.

AMTS, which describes itself as India’s oldest municipal transport corporation for local transport services, currently provides route information, fares and other passenger services through its official systems.

The service also has plans to expand its fleet, with a work order issued for 1,150 new electric air-conditioned buses.

The new buses are planned to be introduced in Ahmedabad and the surrounding AUDA areas to increase the availability of public transport for residents and commuters.

AMTS said the expansion is aimed at strengthening public transport coverage and providing greater convenience to passengers.

The addition of the electric AC buses is expected to modernise the fleet further and provide more comfortable and accessible services across the city and adjoining areas.

The latest figures also represent a substantial level of daily use of the city’s municipal bus network.

AMTS said efforts had been made to increase bus availability, maintain regular and smooth operations and improve facilities for passengers.

“The introduction of the new electric AC buses in the coming period would further strengthen its public transport system, to provide more comfortable, reliable and accessible services to citizens of Ahmedabad and surrounding areas,” the body said.
