Reaffirming Gujarat’s dedication to clean energy, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled the Gujarat Integrated Renewable Energy Policy-2025 at an event in Gandhinagar. The policy underscores the state’s commitment to a sustainable energy future, emphasizing renewable energy, battery storage, and new technologies to drive green growth. Aligned with national goals, the policy aims to position Gujarat as a global clean energy hub, targeting over 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The policy, led by the Chief Minister and Energy Minister Rushikesh Patel, focuses on climate change challenges and the transition to sustainable energy systems. It aims to bolster investments, innovation, and grid stability, contributing significantly to India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. The RE Policy-2025 promotes Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) integration for renewable energy projects, emphasizing grid stability and large-scale energy integration.
One of the key aspects of the policy is the promotion of BESS for transmission support and grid services, with a focus on solar, wind, and hybrid projects. It introduces flexible commissioning timelines for renewable projects, streamlining processes and incentivizing repowering and refurbishment of existing wind turbines. The policy also supports emerging renewable technologies like ocean energy and geothermal energy, aiming to diversify Gujarat’s clean energy mix.
Encouraging private sector involvement and startups, the policy emphasizes rooftop and distributed renewable energy, alongside employment generation and skill development initiatives in the green energy sector. It also facilitates on-demand renewable energy connectivity and promotes new transmission projects in renewable-rich areas. By fostering innovation and sustainability, the policy aims to establish Gujarat as a stable and attractive destination for renewable energy investments.
