Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited Kolkata to participate in the swearing-in event of Suvendu Adhikari, who is poised to become West Bengal’s first BJP Chief Minister. Adhikari was elected as the BJP legislature party leader after the party’s significant victory in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections, paving the way for the BJP’s inaugural government in the state.
The ceremony is anticipated to be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, various Union ministers, and chief ministers from BJP and NDA-governed states. Amit Shah declared Adhikari’s appointment as Chief Minister post a legislative party meeting in Kolkata.
Adhikari’s elevation to the Chief Minister’s role followed notable wins against Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram and Bhabanipur, reshaping the political landscape of West Bengal. The results were viewed as a significant blow to Banerjee in her traditional stronghold, establishing Adhikari as the primary face of the BJP in the state.
Gujarat Agriculture and Spokesperson Minister Jitu Vaghani hailed the BJP’s success in West Bengal as akin to a “second independence,” attributing it to public acknowledgment of development under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.
