Indian squash player Veer Chotrani, ranked 45th globally, secured a victory over compatriot Abhay Singh in a challenging five-game match at the World Squash Championships in Giza. Chotrani, after a tough battle, triumphed 14-12, 8-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-2, marking his second win in three encounters with the 22nd ranked Singh.
Facing a critical moment after losing the second and third games, Chotrani rallied back impressively to clinch the next two games, securing his spot in the second round. Expressing his satisfaction, Chotrani acknowledged the difficulty of competing against a fellow Indian in the tournament’s initial round but emphasized his joy in progressing further.
Chotrani is set to face Egyptian world No. 1 Mostafa Asal in the upcoming match on Sunday. Additionally, Ramit Tandon and Velavan Senthilkumar are gearing up for their matches in the 64-player field against formidable opponents from Egypt and France, respectively.
