Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has unveiled Ahmedabad’s inaugural fully indigenous ‘Make in India’ metro train, symbolizing India’s self-reliance. The Chief Minister visited Titagarh Rail Systems’ advanced facility near Kolkata to launch the coaches for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail. This achievement is a significant stride for the ‘Make in India’ campaign and the self-reliant India vision, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trains are being manufactured entirely in India at Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, utilizing cutting-edge technology and resources. Patel highlighted that the plant employs workers from various states, aligning with the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) has placed an order for ten such trains from Titagarh to cater to the increasing demand and popularity of Ahmedabad’s metro system. These additional trains will be essential upon the completion of the 21-kilometre Phase-2 expansion. Currently, the Ahmedabad Metro serves over 1.6 lakh passengers daily, with ridership growing by 30-40% annually. Patel emphasized the unique colors and designs on these stainless steel trains, reflecting Ahmedabad’s culture. The first ‘Make in India’ train for Ahmedabad will soon commence operations after final testing and certification, with the remaining trains to follow over the next few months. These trains, meeting global standards, are set to be a source of pride for Gujarat. Patel commended PM Modi’s visionary leadership and focus on citizen welfare, particularly in infrastructure development. India’s metro network has expanded significantly under PM Modi’s tenure, with Patel inspecting the coaches closely during his visit. The train boasts advanced fire safety and security systems and is designed for fully automated, driverless operation. Notable figures present during the unveiling included Chief Minister’s Chief Advisor Hasmukh Adhia, Advisor and GMRCL Managing Director SS Rathore, Titagarh Managing Director Umesh Chaudhary, and senior officials from both organizations. Titagarh Rail Systems is also involved in producing Vande Bharat sleeper trains and metro coaches for various cities, further enhancing India’s public transport infrastructure.
