Amreli, Aug 14 (IANS) Advanced firearms, specialised equipment and security technology used by Gujarat Police and its elite Chetak Commando Force were put on display in Amreli on Friday as part of the state-level celebrations for the 80th Independence Day on Saturday.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the arms exhibition at Samarth Vyayam Mandir and reviewed the weapons and equipment, including those used by specialised police units.
The exhibition provided visitors with an overview of the force’s operational capabilities and preparedness.
Among the firearms displayed were the 7.62 mm Sniper Rifle (Ishapore), Galil Sniper Rifle, Anti-Material Rifle, AK-47, 7.62 mm Ghatak Rifle, SIG Sauer 5.56 mm SF Rifle, Excalibur and INSAS Rifle.
Other weapons included the 30 mm Automatic Grenade Launcher, 40 mm Under-Barrel Grenade Launcher, Glock pistol, MP-5 submachine gun, JVPC and Amogh carbine.
The exhibition also featured specialised equipment such as the Corner Shot System, night-vision technology, optical equipment and rappelling gear.
Non-lethal equipment, including multi-cell launchers, gas guns and Taser guns, was also displayed. The Chief Minister was briefed on the features and applications of the equipment and reviewed the capabilities of the Chetak Commando Force.
Patel appreciated the preparedness, courage and efficiency of the Gujarat Police personnel. The exhibition comes as Gujarat has increasingly used police expos to showcase the capabilities of specialised units.
A similar Police Expo organised in 2025 featured the Chetak Commando Force, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, State Disaster Response Force and Marine Task Force, alongside displays on police technology and crime detection.
The Chetak Commando Force, formerly known as the Special Force of Gujarat Police, was established in 1992 and renamed in 2008. The force is equipped with specialised weapons and equipment for responding to high-risk security situations.
Agriculture Minister and Amreli district in-charge minister Jitu Vaghani; Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja; and Minister of State for Energy and Law, Kaushik Vekariya were among those present at the exhibition, along with other officials and dignitaries.
The state-level Independence Day celebrations are being held in Amreli this year, with Patel scheduled to hoist the National Flag and address the state on August 15.
